Wired News: France Bids Adieu to ‘E-Mail’
I was wondering how long it would take them to get around to this, changing “e-mail” to “courriel” — a merged form of “courrier electronique.” Tech writers who work in French just got one more thing to debate before they change their style guides.
I have to wonder if there’s a French version of TECHWR-L out there somewhere, and if they’re having as heated a battle over this as Whirlers have had over much less consequential things, like serial commas.
Actually I think that would be quite interesting — hearing about whether French tech writers adhere to what the “official” line is on their language, and to what degree…..and does it even matter….? All I know is that every time I take a look at our current President, I become so very thankful that the US has no official language.
